So you might be thinking, what do the Robert McCloskey classic Make Way for Ducklings, the rock band Van Halen, and Thos. Moser fine furniture all have in common? It is not exactly an obvious question and one that we would never have asked ourselves either, but in two seperate articles that were published this week, one in Boston, MA and the other in Pasadena, CA, writers John Ross and Joanna Beresford provide the answers with some fun and creativity...and of course we certainly appreciate their endorsements of our work!

Webbed chair and ottoman or rubber duckies?
When we spied the Kinesis Chair & Ottoman striking a pose amongst the classic furnishings in Thos. Moser's Back Bay showroom, we immediately thought of the Sesame Street jingle "One of These Things Is Not Like the Others."

Many thanks to Rick at The Sawdust Chronicles for posting his audio podcast interview with Tom Moser at Woodworking In America conference.
In Rick's words, this is a "short, but very exciting look (for me) into what makes up Thomas Moser Furniture. We talked briefly about manufacturing, design, and where he and he son derive their inspirations for design. We also very briefly explore where his company may be headed in the future."

This interview was conducted while Tom was signing copies of his book Artistry In Wood, just prior to giving his keynote address.
The Meridian Sideboard shown above as an architectural rendering and drawing (click on image to enlarge) came about as a request from customer to add wine storage to the interior. We thought we would share it here as inspiration. It proves that aesthetics can co-exist beautifully with utility.
The challenge of creating one-of-a-kind pieces that manage to reflect the Thos. Moser commitment to utility, beauty, and simplicity is extremely rewarding. When we began making furniture in the local grange hall over thirty years ago, every piece was custom built for an individual, by an individual, with a specific need. Today many of those pieces are now some of our most popular standard designs.
We can modify the length, width, and height of our pieces. We’ll customize drawers and shelving to meet your precise requirements. Beds can be made for platform mattresses or lower footboards. If you require a unique design, we’ll work with you to draw the piece and ensure that it will be structurally sound. If you prefer another species of wood, we can substitute almost any hardwood of your choice.
Here is a sampling of a few custom case pieces we have built recently (click image to enlarge):
With everything we do, custom or standard, we intend to provide you with an heirloom you will treasure and pass down, crafted and delivered with the most personal and professional care we can offer. If you have unique needs for your home or work environment, we invite you to contact us directly.
Whether it is a modification of an existing design or something completely new, we are happy to custom design a solution that accommodates your unique requirements and singular dreams.

We are pleased to feature Josh Moulton in our Chicago showroom as part of our "alternative gallery space" program, which highlights national and local artists in each of our showrooms across the country. Josh Moulton’s work will remain on display in the showroom through October 31st.
About the Artist
As an artist, Josh Moulton looks for light and how it reflects on architecture and nature. Compositionally there needs to be a strong sense of perspective and a few objects that frame or move the eye around the image. Along with architecture and it’s interaction with nature, Josh is also drawn to the effects that nature has on man made objects. Josh’s goal is to represent locations from an original perspective, and to entice the viewer to spend time asking questions about why he did certain things with each piece. Over the past five years Josh has started to paint subjects/scenes that make social commentary. Josh’s work is in several corporate collections: Deloitte & Touche, The NMH Prentice Women’s Hospital, Oncor International, and more.

David Moser has been commissioned to design and create the awards that will be given to the recipients of The Jackson Laboratory's National Council Awards. Recipients will be chosen in categories including Distinguished Service, Philanthropy and Scientific Achievement. This is the second time that David Moser has been honored with the challenge of creating an award for The Jackson Laboratory. In 2008 Moser created the award given to the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Awards.
The ceremony and reception for the National Council Awards will take place at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine on August 14, when recipients will be announced.
The design of this award utilizes two American hardwoods, Northern white ash and American black walnut, as well as sculpted elements in solid bronze cast at a local foundry.
"The Jackson Laboratory's mission is to enable research for the global community and advance the human condition," states David Moser. "I intended to represent the spirit of their mission and illustrate the unity of man on an abstract global sphere. Additionally, the National Council's mission to ‘Engage - Empower and Educate' is represented on a concentric ring. Using sculpture I aimed to represent these pursuits, echoing the ambitions of The Jackson Laboratory, the Council and the humanitarian achievements of the recipients."
The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution and National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center based in Bar Harbor, Maine, with a facility in Sacramento, California. Its mission is to discover the genetic basis for preventing, treating, and curing human diseases, and to enable research and education for the global biomedical community. In addition to being a research facility, it is an international hub for scientific courses, conferences, training, and education.

ORDER TODAY AND DAVID MOSER WILL PERSONALLY SIGN EACH PIECE: Every piece of authentic Thos. Moser furniture is signed and dated by the craftsman who built it. David Moser will be adding his signature to the craftsman's on each Meridian piece in the first 25 Meridian orders.
Meridian draws inspiration from diverse sources, principally Danish and Shaker influences, while adding David Moser's distinctive creative touch. While also available in cherry, this is our first collection to be introduced in ash as the preferred species, which allows the grain and texture of the wood to come to the fore and adds a clean, modernist feel.
